Your music is in five apps and your case

Your tune list is on folded paper or in a notes app. Recordings are buried in Voice Memos. You tune with one app, slow down the hard part in another, and find the version you learned from in a third. Crosstune does all of that in one app.

Your whole repertoire in one list

Show only the tunes in G, the tunes you're still learning, or everything you learned from one player. Every filter combines with the others, and the list sorts by name, date added, or last played.

  • Filter by key, mode, tuning, type, genre, and more
  • Sort by name, date added, or last played
  • Fast search across every tune

Open a tune and everything is there

Each tune holds links to recordings on music services, your own recordings, scans of your notes or sheet music, and the lyrics. Everything is on one page, so you can find what you need with an instrument in your hand.

  • Recordings and links from Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music, and more
  • Scans of anything you want to keep with the tune, from your phone's camera or your photos
  • Lyrics in a full-screen view that keeps the screen awake
  • Who you learned it from, where, and when, as searchable fields
  • Fields built for folk musicians: tuning, feel, time signature, genre, and more

One-click recording

Record a tune at a session, or yourself working through a part. Each recording can be filed under a tune, so the B part you got from the fiddle player last night is right where you will look for it. If you don't know the tune's name yet, leave it unfiled and sort it out later.

  • Recordings sync between your devices and the web
  • Notes on each recording: who played, or why this version is different
  • Where you were when you made it
  • Available even when you're offline

Slow it down. Loop the hard part

Play any recording slower without dropping the pitch. Shift the key to match your tuning. Mark the tricky turn in the B part as a loop, give it a name, and it will be waiting next time you practice.

  • Change the speed without changing the key
  • Shift the pitch to the key you play it in
  • Named loops that you keep with the recording

Tune up without leaving the app

You don't need a separate tuner app. Crosstune's tuner is built in and free forever.

  • Works for any instrument
  • Reads low bass strings
  • Free on every plan

Flexible lists of tunes

Build a set list for Saturday's gig, a practice list for this month, or a list of every tune you picked up at Clifftop. A tune can be on as many lists as you like, in whatever order you put it. Press play and listen to a list straight through, like a playlist.

Hear any version without leaving the app

Quick access to recordings for every tune you have. Keep the recordings you made next to tracks from Spotify or YouTube.

  • Link recordings from Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Bandcamp, TIDAL, or Slippery-Hill and play them in Crosstune
  • Search the services you use from inside Crosstune
  • Where supported, download a recording to play offline, slow down, and loop like any other

Built for folk musicians

General music apps don't know what cross-tuning is. Crosstune tracks the details folk players care about: AEAE on fiddle, double C on banjo, crooked parts, AABB structure, modal keys, and who you learned a tune from. Your whole catalog lives on your phone, so it works at a festival campground with no signal and syncs when you're back in range.

On your phone, your laptop, and the web

Crosstune runs as an app for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and in any browser, including Android phones, where you can install it to your home screen. Sign in once and your tunes, recordings, and lists are on every device, even when you're offline.

Free for every tune you play. Premium when you want more

Every new account gets 30 days of every Premium feature, with room for about 70 recordings. You don't need a card.

Nate holding his fiddle

Who built this

I'm Nate, and I built Crosstune because I needed it myself. I was tired of the folded list of tunes in my fiddle case, and of keeping the tunes I wanted to learn in lists scattered across online music services. I'm a fiddle player in New York's old-time scene and a member of the Strung Out String Band.

I'd love to hear from you. Send feedback, ideas, or anything that gets in your way to nate@crosstune.app.

Questions

Why isn't Crosstune free?

Most of it is. Your tune list and playback from the music services you link cost very little to run, so they're free for good. Recordings and scans are different. Each one is stored on our servers and synced to every device you use, and that storage and those servers cost money every month. Premium pays for them, and for the time it takes to keep improving Crosstune. It also means Crosstune never needs ads or your data to pay its bills.

What happens when my 30-day trial ends?

Your account becomes Free, and everything you made during the trial stays. Your tunes and lists stay, and lists still play their links. Recordings and scans stay saved, but they play and open only on Premium. An export always includes every recording and scan. Subscribe to Premium to use them again.

Does it work without a signal?

Yes. Your whole catalog is stored on your device. You can read and edit it offline, and it syncs when you're back online. To play a streaming link you need a connection. Saved recordings play offline.

Does it work on Android?

Yes. Open Crosstune in your browser and install it to your home screen.

Is the price the same on iPhone and the web?

Yes. Premium costs the same whether you subscribe in the App Store or on the web.

Can I get my data out?

Yes. One download from Settings gives you your tunes and lists as spreadsheets, plus your recordings and scans.

Is my data private?

Your catalog is private to you. Crosstune will never show ads or sell your data. You can download your tunes, lists, and recordings in one file at any time.
